This was our 4th Disney cruise and we’ve now sailed DCL’s entire fleet. We picked this cruise because it was the Inaugural Castaway Cay Challenge. The challenge was to run a race at Walt Disney World Marathon weekend followed by the Castaway Cay 5K on this cruise and you would earn an exclusive medal. There were many, many passengers participating in the Castaway Cay Challenge on this cruise. Because of that, there were much fewer children than on our previous cruises because many parents wanted to do the challenge without kids. The tables in our area of the dining room were filled with adult runners and no children but other areas of the dining room had families. Given this was runDisney’s first time organizing a challenge, I think they did a great job. The only time that I thought could have been a bit more organized was when the onboard store released the Castaway Cay Challenge merchandise. A line started forming about an hour before the release and it got a bit crazy. I think it might have been better to hand out FastPass time slots for people to return and runners should have priority. Otherwise, this cruise was what I expect from Disney…amazing, wonderful, and right on target.
Also, I probably will not sail another 4-night cruise again unless it is for something special like the CCC. 4-nights is wayyyy too short! If you can swing a 7-night or more, do it!
